Primary Years provide a nurturing and vibrant learning environment for students from Prep-Year 6. Each classroom has computers and iPads available for student use. Students are taught that technology is a tool for learning. Computers and iPads are used by students to demonstrate learning, design final projects and understand coding and other technology-related skills. Good News Lutheran College Primary Years delivers the Australian curriculum through the framework of the IB, which promotes a strong academic foundation in numeracy, literacy and cognitive ability, while also preparing students to become curious, self-motivated and inquiring learners.
In addition to helping students achieve high academic standards, staff work in partnership with parents, to nurture students’ emotional and spiritual growth.
Junior Years has Specialist Teachers for Music, Art, Physical Education and LOTE (German). Musical productions and Choir offer students the opportunity to develop skills in the Performing Arts. Swimming lessons, swimming carnivals, cross-country and athletic carnivals encourage them to push themselves physically. Music, Art, German and Physical Education are delivered in separate, purpose-equipped classrooms.
In Years 7-9, an engaging curriculum is designed to empower, enrich and transform students. Educational experiences provide skills for life, a love of learning, and a strong academic foundation.
Good News Lutheran College is authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Year 7- 9 teachers deliver the Australian curriculum through the IB MYP framework. Learning experiences are designed to create diversity and differentiation within the classroom. This diverse curriculum allows our students to develop new skills and talents while exploring further learning opportunities that will enhance their overall learning experience.
At GNLC, we believe in a holistic approach to education for Years 7-9. We cater to students' academic, emotional, spiritual, physical, and social needs. Our curriculum is challenging, rewarding, vibrant, and energetic, helping students become independent learners.
Teachers create a safe environment that allows for relevant and thought-provoking discussions that provide opportunities for our students to become critical thinkers. Through engaging and interactive curriculum and pedagogy, our students will ultimately become responsible citizens who will go on to be authentic leaders.
In Year 10, students undertake a pre-VCE year in preparation for the rigorous VCE in Year 11. In Year 11-12, we offer both the Victorian Certification of Education and the VCE Vocational Major.
Victorian Certificate of Education
The VCE, known for its educational flexibility and wide range of options, presents a demanding curriculum that empowers students to customize their studies according to their interests and strengths.
The VCE Vocational Major
The VCE VM is a two-year applied learning program integrated into the Victorian Certificate of Education. It provides practical experience in different industries. The College prepares students for further study, work, and life as responsible and contributing citizens. Our specialist staff aim to open pathways for students after the completion of their studies by providing professional assistance and guidance.
